Douglas Electrical Components is pleased to announce the release of a new USB hermetic electrical feedthrough. In addition to historic USB2.0 products, customers will now have the option to choose between both cable feedthrough and PotCon© bulkhead connector styles for USB3.0 needs to accommodate their increased data and camera transfer speed requirements.

Offering speeds higher than USB2.0 and improved power management, USB 3.0 use is on the rise and Douglas Electrical is poised to continue offering the highest quality USB hermetic electrical feedthrough solutions for some of the most demanding industries, including space simulation and glovebox testing.

Typical Douglas customization is available in terms of connector types, cabling lengths, and fitting choices that are most easily integrated for each application.  Offerings exist for both vacuum and high-pressure conditions and all versions come hermetically sealed to the expected Douglas quality standard of <1×10-8cc He/s.

“Douglas Electric is proud to provide PotCon solutions for USB-A, USB-B and USB-C in 3.0 configuration,” said Chris Rempel, Director of Sales and New Product Development for Douglas Electrical.

“Although USB 3.0 was originally developed in 2008, regular production and commercial adoption lagged by several years. Douglas Electrical has just started seeing an increasing number of customers looking to take advantage of USB 3.0 data transmission rates, which are nearly 10x greater than those of USB 2.0.”

Although USB 3.0’s full duplex, dual-bus architecture created some initial challenges during development Douglas Electrical was able to balance the needs for hermetic solutions with the electrical performance of USB 3.0 to provide a full hermetic seal, without affecting electrical performance. It is common in Nuclear Glovebox and Vacuum Chamber application, for customers eager to capitalize and push the boundaries of technology.
